Talks and tutorials from the Data Science Summer School in Paris.

The Data Science Summer School took place from 25 to 29 June 2018 at the École Polytechnique. The school covered a broad spectrum of topics, and the presence of Prof. Yann LeCun, a leading expert in deep learning, and Cédric Villani, winner of the 2010 Fields Medal, did not go unnoticed.

Below is a brief overview of the talks I attended. The Monday sessions focused mainly on broader, non-technical issues in machine learning, with the following lectures:

  1. Deep Learning
  2. Trust and Transparency
  3. Fairness in Machine Learning

Tuesday and Wednesday featured more technical talks:

  1. Machine Learning Research Design and the GDPR
  2. Probabilistic Numerical Computation: A Role for Statisticians in Numerical Analysis?
  3. Deep Learning for Medical Imaging and Precision Medicine
  4. Deep Latent Variable Models in Medical Informatics

Thursday and Friday were devoted to tutorials, from which I chose the following two:

  1. Representing and Comparing Probabilities with Kernels
  2. Crash Course in Deep Learning and Pytorch
